The venue itself is beautiful! It is also great that the guests are able to explore the grounds and play with the chess pieces in the fountain area, we had several guests that enjoyed this, getting a break from the loud music and dancing. THE Castle

I mean really, the highlight of Castle Farms is the castle itself. All of the buildings are absolutely stunning and you would never expect to find something like this in teeny, tiny Charlevoix in  Northern Michigan. Castle Farms feels like something you would find in the hills of Scotland or hidden away in Europe which only adds to the magic of this amazing venue!

THE Grounds

Almost as equally stunning as the buildings at Castle Farms are the gorgeous grounds that surround the whole venue. You could spend days exploring this breathtaking Charlevoix wedding venue and still feel like you hadn't seen it all. Even as someone who does multiple weddings there each year (and got married there myself!) I still feel like I find a new favorite spot every time I visit Castle Farms!

Should we both get ready at Castle Farms?

There is plenty of room at the Castle for you both to get ready! The great thing about both being on site is that we can easily jump between pictures of the guys and the girl since everyone is on location. This also helps get as many pictures out of the way before the ceremony as possible so you have more time to enjoy yourselves after the ceremony.

A FEW OF MY MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SHOOTING WEDDINGS AT Castle FARMs

Where do you recommend taking our family portraits?

When you get married at the Castle, you do get your ceremony space for the hour before and the hour after your ceremony start time, so typically I recommend taking advantage of your ceremony space and taking all of your family portraits in that same location immediately following your ceremony! 

How long should we plan to take couple's portraits?

I will absolutely take as much time as you'll give me for couple's portraits (portraits all day!), but I really recommend planning for at least 30-45 minutes of couple's portraits to really take advantage of every thing that Castle Farms has to offer. I also recommend taking an additional 10-15 minutes around sunset to get some gorgeous sunset pictures around the Castle.

Do they allow for sparkler exits? Should we do one?

Castle Farms does allow sparkler exits! I had one when I got married there in 2016 and it's still one of my favorite parts of our day. So I love it when my couples choose to have a sparkler exit at the Castle! Your day-of coordinator can give you all of their guidelines and information if you're interested in having a special exit for your wedding.

Hey there! I'm Amanda "Mandie" Forbes, a Northern Michigan wedding photographer and videographer, based out of Traverse City. I'm a hopeless romantic, an old soul, and a 3rd culture kid who's been obsessed with photography since I was about 7 years old. I'm married to my college sweetheart, Zachary, and we've been inseparable ever since we first met during orientation week our freshman year of college and bonded over our mutual love of books and history. We got married at Castle Farms ourselves in August of 2016!
