Jennie + Nic: A Fantastic Wedding

Jennie and Nic reached out to me for their Perry Hotel wedding, which was going to be in May of 2022. They are both doctors and just finished schooling. Nic’s a pediatrician and Jennie is an OB-GYN and they both just passed all their tests. They were planning their wedding while also doing their certifications, and residencies, so they were super busy while planning everything for the wedding too!

I was honored to not only be able to capture their love through photos but tell their story through video as well! Read how the day went and don’t forget to scroll to the bottom to watch their wedding video!

Their Perry Hotel Wedding Day

So when my associate shooter and I got to the Perry Hotel, Jennie and her bridesmaids were getting ready at the Perry House, which is right behind the Perry Hotel. The Perry House is a historic home that’s a perfect place for brides to get ready! So we started with getting the details, then we captured the girls getting ready and having fun! They were easy going and there was a moment when a little impromptu dance party broke out with some of her bridesmaids. It was so sweet!

Father Daughter First Look

After we got Jennie into her dress, it was time for the father-daughter first look! We found a perfect location for their Perry Hotel wedding to capture their reaction to each other. It was on gorgeous staircase in the house, which I really love! When they saw each other, they both cried. It was such a beautiful moment!

An Excited Groom

And then after her first look with her dad, we went over to where the groom and groomsmen were getting ready at another local historical building. After introducing ourselves, I always ask the groom how he’s feeling and if he’s nervous. He proceeded to tell me that he wasn’t worried, no – just really excited to see Jennie! He was ready to see her and he wanted to spend the rest of their Perry Hotel wedding day with her, which was really sweet.

After catching up, we took getting ready photos for him and his group! One person who was really special that day was Will. He’s Nic’s special needs brother, and Nic and Jennie wanted to make sure they got pictures with him. So we got photos of all of the guys with Will in there too! You could really tell how much Nic loves his brother. Even though it was his wedding day, he was always looking out for Will and he just wanted to make sure that Will was a part of it.

An Emotional First Look

From there we moved onto Nic and Jennie’s first look! They wanted to do their first look at a historic and really gorgeous bridge that we have here in Petoskey. It’s surprising, because it doesn’t look like something you’d find hidden away in a park in northern Michigan. So, most people don’t really know that it’s there, but it’s an excellent spot for photos!

We set them all up, and they had their first look! Nic and Jennie immediately cried. They were both sobbing as soon as they saw each other. We knew that after their first look, they had written letters they wanted to read to each other and so that’s what we did next! Both Jennie and Nic cried through their entire letters and it was a perfect moment. Afterwards, we took some of the bride and groom photos there before we captured the bridal party together!

The Perry Hotel Wedding Ceremony

And then we went back to the hotel to get them all set up and ready for the wedding ceremony. One of the reasons they chose to have their wedding at the Perry Hotel is because they both lived in Michigan and grew up here, but now that they’re grown, they’ve moved away and have careers in different cities. But, they want to come home to Northern Michigan to have their wedding because it was a huge part of their childhood. They have such great memories here and they wanted to get married somewhere that has a special meaning for them.

So after the Perry Hotel wedding ceremony, there were a couple of really unique moments that stood out! There’s this really cute moment, right after the ceremony with Jennie hugging Will because she’s his sister now! And there was another moment where one of the bridesmaids was overwhelmed and crying because Nic and Jennie were married. It seemed everyone was emotional!

They’re Married!

Following the ceremony did a couple of “just married” photos with Jennie and Nic. They were just so thrilled to be married and it was a lovely thing to witness! This whole day was turning out to be so much fun, but it was about to get better!

The Reception

Then Nic and Jennie made their entrances to the reception which was immediately followed by the speeches. The best man gave a speech, then the maid of honor, then Jennie’s dad gave a speech. Then Nic’s mom and dad both gave a speech. There were close to 45 minutes of speeches! Jennie later told me that people swore that none of them were going to be able to keep their speeches under five minutes, but she thought they were joking. Turns out they weren’t joking at all!

They enjoyed their dinner and then they ate their cake. And from there, everyone moved onto the dance floor. The DJ did a fantastic job at this Perry Hotel wedding. Funny thing – I’m actually doing the DJ’s wedding next year! He’s great at what he does and got everyone moving! The dance floor was completely full, and you could feel the floor shaking because everyone was having such a blast!

There was a really sweet, fun dance that happened! Jennie’s grandpa really wanted to dance with Jennie during the wedding reception, and he wanted to do the YMCA with her. So the DJ made sure to play that, and there’s some really great shots of Jennie dancing with her grandpa on the dance floor to the YMCA! It was such a sweet moment.

They really did have an absolutely sweetest and memorable Perry Hotel Wedding! It was pretty much perfect. And they’re one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever had the chance to work with! I wish you guys the best in life and your ever after!
