I don’t know about you all, but I’ve been really into the dusty blue wedding trends that have been going around lately. So when I decided that I finally wanted to put together the wedding shoot that I’ve been thinking about doing for a couple of years, I knew that a dusty blue Michigan beach wedding was the theme that I wanted. One of the themes that I wanted to highlight with this shoot is that you don’t have to spend a lot to have a gorgeous wedding. A good photographer can make a wedding or elopement on a budget look way more expensive than it actually was. But on the flip side, a bad photographer can make even the most expensive wedding look cheap.
Case in point:
For this shoot, we spent less than $100 on Katy’s outfit. Her skirt was about $50, and the top and under-bralette were $21 together for a total of $71.
We bought assorted greenery from Trader Joe’s to put together her bouquet and bought ribbon from Hobby Lobby. I’d say, all-together, her bouquet probably cost $12.
For the decor, we spent between $50-$75 on the assorted items we used to put the table together. For a grand total of about $160. Most people spend more than that on their favors.
Granted, my example is a little more in line with an elopement wedding. There are usually more details involved in a traditional wedding, especially a wedding with guests invited. The more guests you invite, the more your wedding is going to cost. Mostly due to food and drinks and the space to entertain your guests. But the same principle applies. Invest in good photographer who knows what they’re doing, and you’ll get gorgeous pictures whether your wedding is on a budget or not.

I see a lot of brides asking how in the world do you decide on/set your wedding budget. One of the simplest methods that I’ve seen and would recommend is:
#1) start with the total amount that you can afford to spend
#2) decide what things are most important to you and write each one out
*Things to consider: once your wedding is done and over with, the only things that last are your wedding photographs and your wedding video, and your dress if you’re keeping it. The food, the decorations, the cake, the flowers are all just temporary. I’m not saying that they’re not important, but if you are on a budget, I genuinely recommend investing a good portion of your budget in a good photographer and a good videographer and making the rest work.
#3) designate percentages of your total budget based on what’s most important to you – least important to you
Aaand there you go, it doesn’t really have to be much more complicated than that. You may have to do some adjusting throughout the planning process, but that’s the general idea.
