Marissa and Alex’s cloudy engagement photos are a perfect example why you shouldn’t worry about rainy or cloudy days messing up your photography. Their session happened to take place at my favorite spot for engagement sessions, the Mission Point Lighthouse beach! This is a historic area with woods, an amazing lighthouse, and a beautiful beach. It’s a really great spot for engagement sessions because the sun sets right over the water, so you get this really gorgeous sunset right at golden hour!
The Proposal
Even though they only recently got engaged, Marissa and Alex have been together for three and a half years! The night Alex proposed, he made plans to take Marissa out to dinner (she usually makes the plans, so she was surprised) and they went to their favorite cocktail bar. When they were about to go home, he asked for the check, but Instead of the check, the waiter brought the ring! They’re both criers so there were definitely tears involved!
The Beach Engagement Session
Alex and Marissa wanted a beach engagement session and chose the lighthouse from a list of my suggestions. They specifically wanted beach photos and shots on the water. North Michigan is their happy place, so the Old Mission Lighthouse beach was an easy choice for them. But, little did they know that their session would produce cloudy engagement photos!
This location is great for several reasons, and I tell every couple picking this location to make a day out of it! I suggest hitting up some of the wineries on the way up to the location. That way, they can have wine tastings, food, and a fun date before their photos begin. Then, when you arrive you’re already relaxed and in a great mood from all the fun you’re already having!
Cloudy Engagement Photos
So, they come to the engagement session and it’s completely overcast! Some might worry that cloudy days would make for terrible engagement photos. But couples shouldn’t worry – because it’s actually the opposite! Overcast days create really even light, and absolutely stunning portrait shots! So, when I was excited about the overcast, they got excited too and we had a great session together!
We got some pictures in the woods, some at the lighthouse and we finished the session on the beach. They got to watch the beautiful sunset together. By the end of their session, they realized there was no need to worry about the cloudy engagement photos. All of their photos came out awesome! Just check out these pictures! And if things start to turn cloudy during your photography session – take it from Alex & Marissa – there’s nothing to worry about!
