Katy Jean: SAUGATUCK BEACH SESSION

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve moved in my life. Too many to count at this point, I think. To Michigan, to Mexico, to Texas, to El Salvador, back to Michigan, to college, back home, yada yada ya. The list goes on! Most recently though, I moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan last year when I got married. The crazy thing is that no matter how many times I’ve moved, it’s always a little nerve-wracking. Mostly because, well, I’m an awkward human being and I never feel comfortable enough to make friends easily.

Moving to Kalamazoo was especially nerve-wracking , because it’s 2 hours away from my family and some of my closest friends that I’ve known since we were children. I have to say, though, that I’ve been extremely blessed during my adventures as an adult to meet some of my best friends in all corners of the world. Two of my closest friends I met in France and in Mexico during study abroad trips. But this was different, when you study abroad it’s a special experience that naturally bonds you with your fellow travelers. When I moved to Kalamazoo, I wasn’t going to have that advantage.

“the crazy thing is that no matter how many times I’ve moved, it’s always a little nerve-wracking”

My first day of work in Kalamazoo I was a hot mess. Frankly, I was terrified. I had never worked at such a large company and I expected to be totally lost. Enter Katy Jean. The two of us hit it off from the very start. We discovered quickly that we have a mutual love of literature and writing, and bonded over the fact that we both belong to the “World’s Most Awkward People” club. We both love wine tasting, and margaritas, and traveling (our travel bucket list is just ridiculously long at this point), and guys! our birthdays are two stinking days apart! Our’s was a friendship made in heaven.

Here I am a little over a year later, and I’ve continually been amazed by the friendships that I’ve made and the beautiful people that I’ve met, and Katy is genuinely one of the best. She’s a Kindred Spirit that I’m thankful every day for, and I can only hope that the pictures I’ve captured of her make her look half as beautiful as she is on the inside!

P.S. She was a champ for these pictures! Michigan lakes are not warm (even in the summer), and she waded right into the water at Saugatuck Beach so I could get the pictures that I wanted! I definitely owe her a margarita for being my model for this session!
